One Year Down

One whole year of marriage. It seems like our wedding day was just yesterday and so many years ago all at the same time. When I think back to that perfect day, I still feel overwhelmed with how much joy and love was present. I would redo it over and over again every single year if that was acceptable by society ;) PS-If you want to relive the memories of my absolute favorite day with me, here are the links to each Wedding Wednesday post from last summer!

The past year has been one for the books! It was filled with so much change and growth and looking back I can so clearly see God’s fingerprints on every moment. Our first year of marriage was nowhere near perfect. There were many fights and tears and stress filled moments where it felt like my whole world was crumbling beneath me. At the same time, there was way much love and laughter and strength that always followed those hard seasons of struggle. The Lord has carried us through this first year of marriage as we found ourselves moving to a new state, finding new friends, starting new jobs, buying our first home, and cooking our first bun in the oven :). And can I just tell you that His plans are always better than our own?  I couldn’t even imagine a better life, home, or husband if I tried. With God’s grace Dakota and I have grown so much as individuals as well as in our marriage and it has been the sweetest of blessings. The Lord has used our marriage to teach us new lessons, to show us our flaws and struggles, and to give us a glimpse of His own love for us. I’m so thankful for all of these changes and that He did send us to a completely new environment because it allowed me to fully rely on Him and on Dakota throughout the craziness of this past year. Yall, the Lord is just SO good. As undeserving as we are, He held us together and helped us through this year in ways I can’t even begin to explain. I am so grateful for the one He specifically designed for me and the sheer blessing this first year with Dakota has been.

On a side note- I never want people to scroll through my Instagram or this blog and think that Dakota and I have a perfect life or marriage because that couldn’t be further from the truth. Of course, I love to share the good times and the fun memories we’ve had but I can promise that we have the same closed-door struggles and arguments that every other couple experiences as well. If it wasn’t for the grace of God and the friendships He has blessed us with, there is NO way we would have made it through this first year. So I want to take a moment to encourage the newly married wife to hang on to your faith, your Father, and your husband for all you have because this too will pass.

To Dakota, thank you for all of your love, encouragement, and support through the hard times and the good times this past year. Thank you for believing in me more than I believe in myself and allowing me to grow and change alongside of you. Thank you for making sure there is always a box of Special K in the house and taking such great care of me, Denver, and the pups. Thank you for never giving up on us or your faith that God will see us through every joy and every trial. Thank you for being the man God has called you to be and leading our family with such strength and grace. I love you more than my words could ever describe. I pray you know how appreciated and loved you are and that I would do anything in this world to make you happy! Thank you for the best first year of marriage. One down, many, many more to go!
